A Book of Hours

A Book of Hours is a captivating interdisciplinary stage work combining stop-motion film, live choreography, and contemporary classical music into a poetic meditation on the mysteries of time.

Inspired by the medieval Book of Hours, the piece explores how we structure our days through Baroque influences, everyday objects, and some of the world’s last speaking clocks. On stage, animated human figures, choreographed musicians, and mechanical toys merge in an impressive 50-minute multimedia performance.

The music is composed by renowned composer Kate Neal and performed live by the award-winning Rubiks Collective. Visual design is by artists Sal Cooper and Gerard Van Dyck.

A Book of Hours premiered in September 2023 at Dancehouse Melbourne/Naarm (Australia) and was praised by the press as a fascinating puzzle and an immersive meditation on time.
